4WD Upgrades came about due to a love of exploring NZ in our own 4WD with friends.
It soon became apparent that there was a lack of workshops in Christchurch focused on 4WD repairs and modifications.
Our hobby then became our profession.
4WD Upgrades have been repairing, modifying & servicing a huge range of vehicles for over 25 years.
From Zamboni Ice groomers to Antarctic Hagglunds.
The business has branched out over the years to include Motor Homes with a large amount of seat frame fabrication and seat belt fitting for customers from all over NZ.
Solar power is another very widely enquired about service we provide.

Owner
Mikes motor sport hobby began in the 90s, circuit racing motorcyles in NZ & Australia this includes racing in the Australian GP.
After retiring from motorcylcle racing he moved on to competing in off road 4WD competitions with his wife Lorna and also spent many weekends away 4wding seeing some NZ’s hidden gems.
Rallying, Hillclimbs & rally sprints then became a passion for both Mike & Lorna with many 1st place results, they won the NZ Hillclimb championship in both gravel and tarmac, gained 3rd place in the Race to The Sky in Cromwell, 1st in the Canterbury Rally 2024 and just this last weekend got 3rd in the Ashley Forest Sprint against a world rally champion Hayden Paddon and Sloan Cox in his 700 HP fire breathing beast.

With over 30 years of hands-on experience in the automotive industry , Mike is not just a mechanic; he's a true enthusiast. From 4WDs to motorcycles, his knowledge for everything automotive is a varied and deep.
Recently, Mike showcased his skills by finishing 3rd in the iconic Ashley Forest Sprint, just 2 seconds behind Hayden Paddon driving his 2016 World Rally Car (WRC). Remarkably, Mike didn’t even lift the bonnet all weekend!
